Sibu: Sibu Rural District Council will meet contractors clearing drains in Sibu Jaya for a dialogue today on better coordination to improve services in the new township on the outskirts of Sibu.
The council’s deputy chairman Clarence Ting said yesterday this meeting sincerely aimed to give the best service to residents who would want Sibu Jaya to be a model town in Sarawak.
“I shall put forward three straights forward questions to the contractors. I hope we shall find out from them how best we can serve the people and the township."
The three questions are:
| (1) |
The problems the contractors are facing, |
| (2) |
Why soil is piling up in the drains and why there is so much rubbish there? |
| (3) |
Why residents say they seldom see their workers at work? |
He said the council would meet these contractors to settle the complaints from residents.
They called on the residents themselves to cooperate with the council to uplift the image of Sibu Jaya.
“A straight forward appeal to them is do not treat drains as dumping grounds. Stop throwing rubbish into them.”
He said soil and dirt on the roads was another concern, with the council working on other aspects too.
Ting said cooperation from all sides was needed to build a beautiful town.
Wanting residents to feel proud of their home in Sibu Jaya, and to meet this goal, he said: “Lets us build a happy and beautiful community together. No indiscriminate dumping of rubbish, please.”
Ting admitted there was more to just garbage management in building a beautiful town as there were many other areas they were looking into.
